The Rocca Sisters’ Annual Healing for Women’s Cancers 5 & 10 K Walk/Run took place at Bronte Creek Provincial Park on Saturday, June 8th. The event was held in support of Breast Cancer Support Services, an organization that has been located in Burlington for more than 20 years and serves the communities of Burlington, Oakville, Hamilton, Milton and Niagara.
It was a milestone event for IRONDame daughter Ali Miller-Boothe, who at the age 11 completed her first ever 10 K running race along side her Mom, Julie Miller-Boothe. They had set the 10 K distance as a goal to achieve and use as a fundraiser for the IRONDame’s Construction Campaign. Their training certainly paid off as both daughter and Mom finished 1st in their age groups! Congratulations Ali and Julie!
The following is Ali’s Race Report for her 1st of what we hope are many 10 K races:
“On a beautiful sunny June 8th in Bronte Creek Park, Mom and I ran The Rocca Sisters’ Healing Women’s Cancer 10 K race. One of the greatest achievements for both of us is that we over exceeded our goal of raising $500, having our final total come to $650. All of this went to a great cause and we thank you all for sponsoring us. The course was gorgeous and wonderful underfoot. After 1 hour and 2 minutes we finished, both placing first in our age group. To accomplish this we had to keep a steady pace which, if I may say so myself, we did. Mom stopped once to drink but I kept going, jogging very slowly while having Gatorade splash all over my face. Otherwise the run was most enjoyable and a huge accomplishment for the both of us and I can’t wait to do another one.” ~ Ali Miller-Boothe
