IRONDames’ Mountain Traverse Team (MTT) members Marla Ashmore, ask Andrea Buzza, Kim Schizas and Shirley Speakman vote the Centurion Ellicottville a resounding success and an absolute “must do” race for 2013!
Sunday’s inaugural C50 and C100 had 366 participants. The C100 course took the MTT over 160 k and climb 6,112 feet in just under eight hours. It was a fantastic opportunity for the MTT to get a final long ride in together before we fly out to Lake Louise on August 31st to start their Great Canadian Mountain Traverse on September 2nd. We were won over, right from our arrival in beautiful Ellicotville where we caught the tail end of the Time Trials. From there, we took to the quiet roads and beautiful scenery of the course, the historic venue and the tremendous support from the volunteers along the route who cheered us on as we crossed the finish line. It was truly a fun and memorable event!
“I had so much fun in the Ellicottville Centurion (even with all of those hills). The volunteers and crowds were awesome, they really made our day. We had so many positive comments on our uniforms, they are really a great conversation starter and I felt proud wearing it. (IRONDame and Mountain Traverse Team Member Kim Schizas)
Now that we’re back home and the race results are in, the MTT is already recommending this series to other IRONDames and friends. Who knows, maybe next year a few IRONDames MTT members will be competing in Saturday’s Time Trial!
