On Saturday, June 1 2013 at 8 am IRONDame Kathy Eaton will be lined up on the beach of Lake Malsaucy in Belfort France to compete as a member of Team Canada at the ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships. Kathy qualified to represent Canada in the 55-59 AG and is absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to don her Team Canada uniform along with 45 other Canadian athletes!
Belfort is in the heart of Europe between the Malsaucy peninsula and the Ballon d’Alsace; on the doorstep of Switzerland and Germany. The town has already hosted a number of triathlon events, including the World Military Triathlon Championships in 2004, the National French Duathlon Championships in 2005 and the National French Triathlon Championships in 2008 and 2009. The ITU Triathlon World Championships will see a 1,000 athletes from 31 nationalities compete on a course consisting of a 4K swim, 120K bike and 30K run.
Kathy leaves for France on Monday, May 27 2013. Kathy views the 4k open water swim as her biggest challenge as the race is early in the tri season and she has had very limited opportunity to train in open water.
