It has been over two years since our founder Kim passed away. During this time the IRONDames have trained and fundraised to continue Kim’s Cancer Exercise legacy with the construction of Birmingham Gilgan House’s new Cancer Exercise Facility. Her spirit and memory have never been far from our thoughts as we’ve tackled our challenges and worked together to achieving our goal to raise $200,000 for Wellspring.
First and foremost however Kim’s life passion and goal in life was to improve the lives of children and families of children with developmental needs including autism. As a children’s speech-language pathologist and clinical supervisor with blueballoon health care Kim transformed many lives.
To honour Kim’s life’s work with children, former blueballoon health services co-worker and music therapist Noreen Donnell (now operating her own private practise – MusicByDesign) is co-leading a Bench Fundraiser along with Annette O’Brien, a mom of one of Kim’s clients. Noreen and Annette are looking to raise $4,500 to purchase a Bench Memorial through the City of Burlington. Kim’s Bench is to be located in Spencer Smith Park overlooking the children’s playground. It would be a meaningful and peaceful place for Kim’s colleagues, clients and friends to visit and connect with her. The goal is to raise the funds by Christmas and have Kim’s Bench installed in the spring.
