Naomi Cermak was diagnosed with Stage IV melanoma last year and entered the Kona Inspired contest intending to raise money for melanoma research. The former McMaster Varsity Swim team captain had beat the disease once already in 2001 and went on to become an accomplished triathlete with back-to-back visits to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in 2010 and 2011. Earlier this summer Naomi became one of the 7 lucky Kona Inspired athletes to be invited to participate in Saturday’s IRONMAN World Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaiì with her inspiring video submission “Making the Impossible Seem Possible”. ~ CLICK HERE to watch her video.
Unfortunately shortly after receiving the news that she’d been selected Naomi’s health deteriorated. Training took a back seat and clinical trials began. Naomi has not be able to make the trip to Hawaiì to compete in tomorrow’s IRONMAN World Championships due to treatments but her drive to to raise over $12,000 for the melanoma immunotherapy research group at Princess Margaret hospital continues!
