Over 375 cyclists took to Halton’s rural roads last Sunday, September 29 2013 for Share The Road Coalition’s 8th Annual Greg’s Ride in memory of OPP Sgt. Greg Stobbart who was killed on June 6, 2006 while riding his bicycle on a training ride along Tremaine Road.
The ride which started and finished at Kelso Conservation Area, paused briefly on Tremaine Road just north of Derry Road, where cyclists including Greg Stobbart’s widow and Share the Road Coalition founder Eleanor McMahon observed a minute of silence at the scene of Greg’s accident.
Cyclists had a choice of three distances 30K ,50K or 100K to ride. IRONDames Andrea Buzza, Claudia Hutchinson, Pat Shaw, Suzanne Zmenak and supporters Karen, Steve Rawlin and Glen Innes took advantage of Sunday’s spectacular weather, taking in the beautiful scenery and Fall colours along the 50K Route! The group even managed to sneak in a butter tart or two at the Ride’s organized Water Stop at Dar’s Delights in Moffat!
“It is one of my favourite Fall supported rides as it is a local ride with distances for all abilities, gives us an opportunity to remember as a group those we have lost to cycling accidents over the years, as well as celebrate the tremendous work that the Share the Road Coalition does to raise cycling safety awareness across Ontario! I hope to see even more cyclists out next year for this event!” ~ IRONDame Andrea Buzza
