IRONDame Hélène Desrosier’s Race Report From The Pruhealth World Triathlon Grand Final In London: Sept. 15 2013

IRONDame Héléne Desrosiers had the honour of competing as a member of Team Canada in the Olympic Distance Race held on September 15, 2013 at the PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final in London England. It was an experience of a lifetime for her! Check out her Race Report below:

“The ITU World Triathlon event was lots of fun and I really enjoyed the opportunity and experience to race as a member of Team Canada on an Olympic Distance Course as it was very different format compared to the Ironman events which I’m used to competing in. The PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final was held over 5 consecutive days with a series of 12 races and lots of participants coming from all over the World. It was great to see everyone wearing their uniform representing their own country.

Like most of us, I arrived a few days before the race. I had a few issues with my bike after it was assembled and therefore I walked a lot, going back and forth between my hotel and where the race was taking place.

Prior to the race, the weather was pretty miserable, it was cold and rainy but fortunately we had great weather for the race, it only started raining as I was approaching the finish line.

The one loop swim in the Serpentine was shortened to 750 m due to the water and air temperature. The swim went well but coming out of the water, I had trouble removing my wetsuit as I couldn’t really feel my hands. My transition time was much longer than I had anticipated.

Hélène's split for the bike course was a fast 1:11:30!

The bike course was a great circuit that went past many famous monuments in London. It was very technical with lots of tight turns, S turns, 180 degree turns and quite a few speed bumps along the way. After witnessing lots of crashes at the races that took place on Friday and on Saturday, my strategy was to take the turns easy and accelerate coming out of them. With so many participants competing on this very short course, it was congested at times.

Hélène put in a strong run to finish 51st in her age group!

The run course was 3 loops through Hyde Park and  around the Serpentine Lake. I felt pretty good on the run and the cheering from the crowd was just amazing!

After the race my family and I had a great time in Paris. The weather was just beautiful there!” ~ IRONDame Hélène Desrosiers

Next year Hélène will be competing in Ironman Wisconsin in Madison Wisconsin on September 7th, 2014 hoping to requalify for the World Championship in Kona, Hawaii in 2015! Go IRONDame GO!
